Sun Run

Public Transport

We encourage all participants to use public transport where possible as road closures will be in place along the event course as well as parking restrictions on surrounding roads. Some additional early morning buses will run from the city and eastern suburbs to the Northern Beaches to help you get to the start line at Dee Why.

The closest bus stop to the start line is the major junction at Pittwater Road and Howard Avenue in Dee Why. From there, the start line is 1km walk away. Plenty of Sydney Buses routes and B-Line services run frequently along Pittwater Road.

Early Morning Additional Services

STA will be running additional services from Coogee, Wynyard and Warringah Mall from 5am to help get you to the start line.

Bus Diversions

The 136 will operate from Chatswood to Dee Why as normal, then turn right into Pittwater Road, left into Harbord Road, Left into Brighton Street, Right into Oliver street, Right into Wyuna, Left into Harbord, follow into Lawrence Street, right into Cavill, right into Oliver, left into Pittwater then into Manly. The 136 will follow this diversion in reverse out of Manly.

The 159 service from Brookvale Depot at 8:18am heading towards Dee Why will need to be diverted to turn Left from Wheeler Parade into Pacific Parade, instead of doing it's normal loop to Dee Why Beach, Left Howard Avenue, Left Avon, Right Pacific Parade. If road openings go to plan, no other 159 services will be interrupted.

The 139 service from Warringah Mall to Manly will only operate as far as Wyndora Ave, Freshwater and the trip from Manly to Warringah Mall will commence at Wyndora Ave, Freshwater whilst the road closure are in place.


Westfield Warringah Mall is offering free parking until 1pm on Saturday 3 February for all Sun Run 2018 participants. From the Mall, additional services and shuttle buses will operate approx every 5 minutes to from Pittwater Rd to Dee Why starting at 5:25am.

After the event STA buses will run every 10 - 15 minutes from the Belgrave St bus stop in Manly back to the mall. Participants will have until 1pm to get to the mall and validate their parking at one of the two concierge desks within the mall by showing their race bib.

Limited parking is available in the Dee Why and Manly Precinct. The majority of parking spaces in Dee Why and Manly are paid parking lots, metered or limited by time, (and additional congestion is expected here). Click here to view council parking locations.

Wherever possible, consider catching public transport instead and leave the car at home as delays are expected on roads throughout Manly after the event as the area is typically busy on Saturday mornings.

Road Closures and Clearways

Road closures and special event clearways for the Sun Run will be in place from 4am until 11am along the 7km, 10km and Aquathlon course.

Special event clearways are strict no parking zones – even if you have a local resident or mobility parking permit.

Check signs carefully when parking on the day and the night before as clearways are in effect early in the morning on event day. Vehicles left in sign-posted clearways will be towed and a fee will apply. If your vehicle is towed you can call the Transport Information Line on 132 701 to find its new location.

Cole Classic

Public Transport 

For Cole Classic participants, Manly Beach is best accessed by public transport. The ferry and bus stops are located only a few minutes walk from the beach promenade.


Limited parking is available in the Manly Precinct. The majority of parking spaces in  Manly are paid parking lots, metered or limited by time, (and additional congestion is expected here). Click here to view council parking locations. We would advise all competitors to catch public transport where possible.

Spit Bridge

The Spit Bridge opens at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30am on the morning of the race. Check the RMS website for any further changes.

Water Taxis

A water taxi shuttle between Rose Bay and Manly will be available on Sunday, February 4, 2018, departing at 8:00am and returning at 1:00pm, provided there is sufficient demand. The special event cost for Cole Classic participants is $15 per person each way. Bookings are essential - book online at Water taxis combined – Cole Classic Swim or call 02 9555 8888. Please note, bookings are essential. The service may also pick up and drop off from Watsons Bay, provided there is sufficient demand.
